On September 27, 2025, Barbara Dahlgren, Co-chair of the Greater Milwaukee Green Party testified before the Environmental Committee of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress to defend the resolution that she authored to reduce bird deaths from windmills. Although a majority of the committee agreed to amend her resolution, it passed onto the next level and will be heard before the District Council.

Representatives from a coalition of 12 groups, a business owner, and two Wisconsin State Representatives met at the Mexican Consulate in Milwaukee to present a letter asking Mexico to co-sponsor a Uniting for Peace Resolution in the United Nations General Assembly. Uniting for Peace is a little known mechanism in the United Nations that can bypass the veto powers of the U.S. in the Security Council. If two thirds of the nations in the General Assembly vote for the resolution, a variety of actions can be taken to end the genocide happening in Gaza and the West Bank. The actions may include: Stripping Israel of its U.N. credentials, placing an arms embargo and other sanctions on Israel, and sending an international armed force to protect the Palestinians, guard the delivery of humanitarian aide and gather evidence of war crimes.
Edgar Rebollar Saenz, Consul of Community Affairs graciously received the letter and materials brought by the group. He promised to forward the materials to the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C. and to the Mexican delegation at the United Nations in New York City.
This hastily assembled project was born from the webinars put together by Dr. Jill Stein and the associated website lifelineforpalestine.com. The GMGP relayed the information to Peace Action Wisconsin which held an emergency meeting on September 13th and invited all groups interested in actions to stop the genocide in Gaza. This action came from the UN working group. There will be other actions to follow.

Cheri Honkala, Co-Founder of the Poor People’s Army received a Lifetime Achievement Award at The Justice Ball, held August 17, 2025 in Milwaukee. The Poor People’s Army marched on the 2024 RNC in Milwaukee where Honkala was arrested attempting to cross a checkpoint at the barricades surrounding the convention site. The Poor People’s Army later marched from Milwaukee to Chicago where Honkala was again arrested at the DNC in an effort call attention to the political silence on the poor and criminalizing the homeless. Cheri Honkala has been arrested over 200 times through her work.

On August 14, 2025, GMGP Co-chair, Barbara Dahlgren testified before the Legislative Committee of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress about the advisory question that she authored concerning future monitoring of oil pipelines in Wisconsin. As it stands, oil pipelines are monitored by the company that owns them and the Department of Nature Resources (DNR) relies on company disclosures about accidents, spills, their impacts on the environment and local residents as well as their clean-up. There was a lengthy discussion in this online meeting about the feasibility of monitoring pipelines by the DNR and DNR’s responsibilities verses. those of the National Environmental Protection Agency. A majority of the Legislative Committee was convinced of the merits of the Resolution and voted in favor of passing it onto the next level for consideration.
Barbara will again be testifying on September 27, 2025 at the 9:00am meeting of the Environmental Committee of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress where her other advisory question that passed at the Spring Hearings has been assigned to be considered for passage onto the next level. This question seeks to use a simple measure to sharply decrease bird deaths caused by windmills. You can join the Microsoft Teams meeting online or call in: 1-608-571-2209 (Phone Conference ID: 776 249 068#)

Across Europe, Central and South America, parts of Asia and Africa, people are celebrating a public holiday today. They celebrate because American workers in 1886 rebelled in Haymarket Square in Chicago. The resulting international workers federation designated May 1st as International Workers’ Day.
But in the country of the Haymarket Affair, the people marched today. They marched on behalf of American workers, immigrant workers, and for human rights in general. While prices continue to rise, the Democrats and Republicans have conspired against raising the minimum wage from $7.25. A baby born when the last minimum wage increase occurred is now of legal working age. Our federal labor laws still hold exemptions from minimum wage and maximum hours for telephone operators among other professions that still exist. These laws have not been updated to allow workers time and space from the boss’ digital tools that track employees at all times. U.S. parental leave policies are incredibly lacking, not only in comparison to our allies in the West, but also in comparison to Russia and most of the developing world as well.
Renowned immigrant rights groups were marching as well. The American workers and immigrants have more opportunity for success if they work together on labor and human rights issues. Marchers for peace in Palestine joined as well. The same war machine that supports forever wars and bombing also involve domestic police who are often trained by IDF and given leftover military equipment. We are aware that our police state will not only imprison and torture military targets and foreigners (as we are told the goal is), but also anyone else who is inconvenient including U.S. citizens. When there is no due process for immigrants or any other scapegoated group, there is no due process for anyone. All that must be claimed is a charge of immigration or terrorism, and the American is just as easily imprisoned without any chance of defense.
So the people marched. Greens marched. A couple of our local channels caught our very own Pam (pictured) in their 2 minute segments about the events in Downtown Milwaukee ending at Zeidler Union Square. We would like to thank her and all of the other people out today for making their voices heard on the vital issues of our times.
