On August 14, 2025, GMGP Co-chair, Barbara Dahlgren testified before the Legislative Committee of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress about the advisory question that she authored concerning future monitoring of oil pipelines in Wisconsin. As it stands, oil pipelines are monitored by the company that owns them and the Department of Nature Resources (DNR) relies on company disclosures about accidents, spills, their impacts on the environment and local residents as well as their clean-up. There was a lengthy discussion in this online meeting about the feasibility of monitoring pipelines by the DNR and DNR’s responsibilities verses. those of the National Environmental Protection Agency. A majority of the Legislative Committee was convinced of the merits of the Resolution and voted in favor of passing it onto the next level for consideration.
Barbara will again be testifying on September 27, 2025 at the 9:00am meeting of the Environmental Committee of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress where her other advisory question that passed at the Spring Hearings has been assigned to be considered for passage onto the next level. This question seeks to use a simple measure to sharply decrease bird deaths caused by windmills.
