Help Greens Thrive Statewide

Over the years, the Greater Milwaukee Green Party has been the leading local in the state in terms of supporting candidates and actions. We have built a culture of inclusion in which we have welcomed Greens across the state to share in our discussion lists, our events, and in the materials we have to help others organize locally.  We have even allowed people surrounding Milwaukee County to join our local in order to give people the space to be active where no other locals have been built.

While actions sometimes move slowly in the State Party, GMGP has shown consistently that we can mobilize quickly for success, even while we are a small volunteer workforce with little funding.  While communication with WIGP can sometimes be strained, it is good for all of us to promote Green activity statewide.  Some statewide activity already promoted by GMGP has already been completely without assistance from WIGP including where we have networked in Appleton, Oshkosh, and somewhat in the Racine/Kenosha area.

Many cities have “sister cities,” that encourage communication, and maybe friendly competition to be the best on certain issues.  Likewise, the Greater Milwaukee Green Party is launching a sister locals program to better help to launch and mutually aid other locals.

This means Greater Milwaukee Green Party will

  1. offer a starter pack and other materials to singular or small groups of Greens across the state who would like to begin a local or are restarting the process.  These materials will come with an approved cost plus shipping to send any requested materials.  These will be requestable through our website or by calling listed volunteers. Our volunteers willing to help make and send materials will be reimbursed through the donated funds.
  2. continue to welcome people to attend our meetings, and if they choose, they can report on how the process of building the local is going and/or ask questions to our membership.
  3. possibly have a volunteer or small group take a trip to the location for a first meeting or other event to kick off their membership drive
  4. Aid (and possibly locate) Green candidates to ensure Greens who take a leap of faith are well supported.

This policy will sunset in December 2025 with the possibility of renewal if it is a success.

This page will become the main space where the kinds of materials and information to help Greens build their own locals around the state will live.  Currently under construction.  Stay tuned for new information!
